My dad is a Puerto Rican man with Parkinson’s who is pushing 70. We’ve had the conversation in the last week as to why it’s important for him to carry proof of citizenship on him- despite him being born and raised in New York, having attended a New York public college for his Doctorate degree, and owning a home. People are being torn away from their families in broad daylight in my county. But, it shouldn’t take a personal connection to care.
Children with cancer have been ripped away from their families. Four year old babies have been torn away from their parents and just expected to find a way to reunite with them if their citizenship is confirmed.
It is a bigger crime to own a fake ID, forget to pay a parking ticket, speed in a school zone, or jaywalk than it is to be an undocumented immigrant. It is a civil offense. The abuse of power that the government has shown is so disproportionate to the crime, it’s absurd. The real criminals are the ones in the White House, proven to do Ketamine then pass legislation (which is also a larger crime than being undocumented) and our sitting president with 34 felony CONVICTIONS. He is a CONVICTED felon.
There is a genocide currently going on in Palestine, in the Gaza strip. Humanitarian aid is being denied in international waters by Israel, and they are murdering and keeping those providing aid hostage, committing yet ANOTHER war crime. There is a silent genocide currently occurring in Congo, as well as Sudan and many other non-white countries.
This is the state of our world. Donald Trump is only supporting these tragedies happening and uplifting the fellow war criminals who cause the mass destruction of people, cultures, and societies.
As someone who believes in Jesus, I find it so hypocritical that fellow Jesus-believers choose to support the false narrative that Jesus would support these actions. The man who hung out with the prostitutes, the man who washed people’s feet, the man who aided the poor and told the rich to spread their wealth. This man would be deemed a communist by the standards of your hypocrisy, the son of God would not be staying silent and complicit during war crimes.
The son of God would not say that someone is illegal on stolen land, or separate families. The son of God would not support a rapist in our highest public office. Jesus served the people, he would not support our President, who seemingly has forgot his role as a public servant, turning into an absolute tyrant and a dictator.
Before you use the Bible against someone for being an immigrant, gay, non-white, transgender, or to defend your convoluted narrative, think about what Jesus would do- not what the Church may support nowadays.
Again, no silver lining to this blog post, but I do have a small platform (I don’t know WHAT’S going on with my main instagram going viral) but I might as well use the opportunity to discuss what’s going on in the world.
Acting like nothing is going on right now in LA, on Long Island, and internationally is a privilege many don’t have. It will affect all of us. There is power in numbers. Use your voice while you can, since a senator got arrested for today and a reporter got shot at the other day.
This is a dark age for America. Don’t be on the wrong side of history.
