MEET SAMANTHA CASTRO

Samantha Castro is an author, editor and student. In 2020, she began writing news articles for her school paper and online publications.

Her first article published was "The 97%: The Frightening Sexual Harassment Statistics Facing Women", where she disclosed her own experience with sexual violence, showcasing her notable advocacy and vulnerability.

Following that article, she published "In Defense of Neopronouns", discussing a grammatical take on the highly dividing sociopolitical debate.

Castro then shifted her focus to creative nonfiction and poetry, releasing her poetry compilation, Wise by Nature, in mid 2023. Her second collection, Cathartic, with art by Emily DeRosa, was released in mid 2025. She anticipates two more books to be released this decade, In Bloom, featuring writing by her father, Dr. Nelson W. Castro, is slated for mid-2027, and My House of Glass, which is expected to be released in 2029.

Castro is a poetry editor for The Diamond Gazette, The Printing Press, and Flowermouth Press, youth-oriented literary magazines focused on advocacy and promoting new voices.

Currently, she attends SUNY Oneonta with dual majors in English, B.A., and Adolescent Education, B.S. and a minor in Educational Psychology. Samantha Castro aspires to become an English teacher and continue her education to earn an Ed.D.

Go read some literary magazines that I volunteer for!
